Research Field and Overview

The research instruments group is the driving force at RI Beam Factory (RIBF) for continuously enhancing activities and competitiveness of experimental research. Consisting of five teams, we are in charge of the construction, operation, and improvement of the core research instruments at RIBF, such as BigRIPS in-flight separator, ZeroDegree spectrometer, SAMURAI spectrometer, and the related infrastructure and equipment.

Research Scientist or Senior Research Scientist: 1 position

The position at the time of hiring will be determined through the selection process.

Job description

The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the upgrade of the BigRIPS separator to produce high-intensity radioactive isotope (RI) beams. The candidate will develop large-aperture superconducting quadrupole triplet magnets operated under an extremely high radiation environment in addition to contributing to effective operation, maintenance, and performance upgrade of our core research instruments. The candidate is also expected to play a vital role in the upgrade plan of RIBF. The successful candidate is expected to conduct research and development on topics specified above and to contribute to the management of the team Senior Research Scientist is also expected to assist the team leader.

Qualification

Doctoral degree (or equivalent research ability and background) in the relevant research field such as science or engineering.

Experiences on experiments using RI beams and the development of magnetic spectrometers are not necessarily required.

Start of employment

RIKEN expects that the successful applicant will be able to take up this position at the earliest opportunity after July 1, 2024.
