Postdoctoral fellow ID13
The European Synchrotron, the ESRF, is an international research centre based in Grenoble, France.
Through its innovative engineering, pioneering scientific vision and a strong commitment from its 700 staff members, the ESRF is recognised as one of the top research facilities worldwide. Its particle accelerator produces intense X-ray beams that are used by thousands of scientists each year for experiments in diverse fields such as biology, medicine, environmental sciences, cultural heritage, materials science, and physics.
Supported by 22 countries, the ESRF is an equal opportunity employer and encourages diversity.
You will participate in the operation of the beamline, ongoing in-house research programmes, provide support to external users as local contact, and develop your own research programme.
ID13 offers the unique opportunity to combine cutting-the-edge scanning micro-/nano-beam diffraction/scattering methods with sub-millisecond time resolution using highly efficient pixel array detectors. With the considerable gain in performance due to the recently upgraded X-ray source (ESRF EBS), it is ideally suited for in-vivo/operando experiments and 3D techniques (SAXS/WAXS tensor tomography). The coherence of X-ray nano-beams can also be exploited for ptychography and similar applications. The current research programme is covering a wide range of materials such as bio-materials, biological cells, polymers, nano-particles, materials for sustainable energy generation and storage. In particular, you will join in the effort of the group to upgrade the performance of the experimental end-stations and to implement new experimental techniques. You will be encouraged to develop your own research projects, which should exploit and further develop the beamline's distinctive capabilities.
