The Centre for Environmental Data Analysis (CEDA) based within the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory (RAL) Space department, of the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) is looking for a Division Head to provide outstanding people and business leadership.

The CEDA Archive forms part of NERC's Environmental Data Service - a network of data centres covering all aspects of environmental science. Our team coordinates data management on behalf of NERC for the UK atmospheric science and earth observation communities.

CEDA holds data covering climate, composition, observations, and numerical weather prediction, as well as numerous earth observation datasets, including airborne and satellite data and imagery. CEDA’s main goal is to ensure that atmospheric and earth observation data are made readily available and accessible to all in order to fully realise their reuse potential.

To be successful in this role you will be passionate about continuous improvement within CEDA, reporting directly to the Director of RAL Space you will take ownership of the group structure whilst encouraging a progressive and dynamic working environment to allow your colleagues to perform to the best of their abilities.

About you:

  • You’ll be educated to a minimum of degree level in a scientific discipline (ideally a geophysical/physical science), and a postgraduate qualification or proven equivalent experience would be desirable.
  • Have solid leadership skills, gained in a similar environment.
  • As part of this role you will be working with other heads within RAL Space as well as NERC stakeholders and external funding bodies, committees, and task forces as such you must demonstrate highly developed written and verbal communication skills alongside a strong influencing style.
