Director of the INFN Legnaro National Laboratory – Legnaro (PD) Italy

INFN seeks a distinguished scientist to fill the position of Director of the Legnaro National Laboratory (LNL, website: http://www.lnl.infn.it/), one of the four INFN National Laboratories. The appointment is intended for four years (with the possibility for a renewal) and its starting date will be the 1st of November 2023.

LNL is a Laboratory dedicated to nuclear physics, nuclear astrophysics and accelerators, accounting for about 800 users per year. A state-of-the-art accelerator R&D programme is being pursued, where cutting-edge technologies for high performant cavities development and construction, cryogenics and superconductivity are worked out. Moreover, activities related to applications in biomedical physics, radiobiology, solid state physics, environmental physics, material technology are performed.

The LNL key scientific programme is centered on the SPES (Selective Production of Exotic Nuclear Species) project. This project is devoted to basic research as well as to the production of radionuclides of medical interest.

The successful candidate is expected to hold an outstanding track record in Nuclear and Accelerator Physics and associated technologies, recognized leadership talent and demonstrated project management skills. Priority will be given to candidates with specific knowledge regarding the activities carried out at LNL. Good knowledge of the Italian language is required.

To be considered for the job, Italian candidates should also hold one of the following qualifications:

  • “Dirigente di Ricerca” or “Dirigente Tecnologo” at INFN or other Italian research institutions;
  • Full Professor (“Professore Ordinario”) at an Italian University.

Foreign candidates, or Italian candidates who reside in foreign countries, can also qualify if they have been predominantly active in scientific or technological research activities of interest for INFN and hold at least one of the following qualifications;

  • Full Professor at a foreign University;
  • experience from high responsibility positions in qualified foreign or international research institutions;
  • highest scientific awards internationally recognised
