The Analytical Services Group supports all divisions and brands within Atlas Copco’s Vacuum Technique Business Area, including Edwards, Leybold and Gamma, and creates software tools to model the many kinds of vacuum pumps used in the vacuum industry.  We also provide vacuum system modelling tools to enable our customers to optimise their systems by working with us.  Collaborating with development and marketing teams across the world, our tools are a key part of our innovation, product specification, development, and sales processes.  We also support our product development detailed design calculations using in-house and external tools including FEA and CFD.

This is a Hybrid Role

The Senior Technologist role is critical in helping us develop new vacuum system and modelling methods. Collaborating with the software development group, you will produce tools to make these methods available to users across the business division, from Technology through to Sales.

Here’s how you will help in engineering the future:

  • Develop mathematical models of vacuum pump mechanism and vacuum systems;
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to identify needs for improved predictive models and software;
  • Partner with other groups to deliver software tools based on these models;
  • Support other groups with advice in physics, mathematics and vacuum science;
  • Maintain and develop existing software, ensuring uptime, and future planning;
  • Responsible for creating and delivering the strategy roadmap in line with the groups mission.

Your data for success

  • Degree in physical science/engineering discipline;
  • Experience in vacuum systems or experience in modelling other fluid systems;
  • Experience in creating and maintaining software;
  • Understanding of vacuum systems and applications is beneficial but not essential;
  • Understanding of physical modelling methods and processes and skills at creating mathematical models of physical systems;
  • Experienced in managing stakeholder relationships at all levels.
