The Department of Physics and Astronomy invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level, commencing July 1, 2022, or on a date mutually agreed upon. Outstanding candidates in any area of physics applied to medicine will be considered with particular emphasis on applicants who will complement or extend the Department’s strengths. Salary and rank will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in Physics, Medical Physics, Engineering or a related field and will have substantive experience in the application of physics to medicine, including device development, clinical trials and the application of Machine Learning to diagnosis and therapy. Duties will include undergraduate and graduate teaching, including the development and delivery of Medical Physics courses in a CAMPEP accredited program, and the integration of an undergraduate Medical Physics stream within an anticipated Applied Physics program, research and graduate student supervision, and service-related activities. The successful candidate will have a track record of high-quality scholarly research leading to peer-assessed publications; will either have or will demonstrate the potential to establish an independent, innovative, scholarly, externally fundable research program; will have demonstrated strength in or strong potential for outstanding teaching contributions; and will exhibit evidence of the ability to work in a collaborative environment. The ideal candidate will be certified (or eligible for certification) as a Medical Physicist.

The Department currently has 22 full-time tenured and tenure track faculty members and two Instructors. It offers a full range of undergraduate and graduate programs in Subatomic Physics, Condensed Matter Physics, Astronomy and Astrophysics and Biological and Medical Physics. The Department has a well-established and equipped research facility, including a new 230 m2 lab for medical physics research and development, in-house high-performance computing clusters and advanced 3-D printing capabilities. We are supported by strong research links with other University of Manitoba departments, including Electrical and Computer Engineering, Biological Sciences, Radiology, Medicine, Biosystems Engineering, and the Manitoba Institute for Materials. The Department also has strong links with CancerCare Manitoba, the CancerCare Manitoba Research Institute, and the Winnipeg Health Sciences Center.
