Faculty Position in Experimental Elementary Particle Physics

The School of Basic Sciences (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics) at EPFL seeks to appoint a tenure track Assistant Professor in experimental elementary particle physics. The appointment will be at the Tenure Track level, but in exceptional cases, appointments at other ranks will be considered as well.

Applications from any sub-field of particle physics are welcome. Of particular interest are candidates synergetic to existing activities within the Institute of Physics and local opportunities at CERN and the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI). The experimental high-energy physics group of the Institute of Physics is strongly involved in the LHCb project at CERN’s Large Hadron Collider from the time of its conception and is currently making a major contribution to the detector upgrade, in view of enhanced data-taking capability to extend the science reach from 2022 onwards. The new position offers the opportunity to leverage this investment, by joining the LHCb collaboration, while also developing ideas for the longer-term future, in an environment providing strong technical support in detector development and the possibility to collaborate with theory colleagues. The PSI is a Swiss national facility offering world-class and unique opportunities at the high-intensity frontier of particle physics.

A PhD degree in particle physics as well as a strong and growing track record of scientific accomplishments and leadership are required. The appointed professor is expected to initiate a creative experimental programme, and engage in teaching physics at undergraduate and graduate levels. Proficiency in French is not required, but a willingness to learn the language is appreciated.
