Job Details
Company Description
At CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. Using the world's largest and most complex scientific instruments, they study the basic constituents of matter - fundamental particles that are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives physicists clues about how particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature. Find out more on http://home.cern.
Job Description
Introduction
Are you a motivated electromechanical technician with solid skills for hydraulics, fluid and gas? Do you relish a challenge? Join CERN’s Accelerator Beam Transfer Group, to work in the field of beam transfer systems applied to the largest particle physics laboratory in the world. Take part!
You will join the Accelerator Systems Department (SY), which is responsible for the beam-related technical systems of the CERN accelerators. The SY teams design, build and operate equipment systems in all CERN accelerators, and are engaged in ambitious forward-looking R&D programmes.
You will be working within the Accelerator Beam Transfer (ABT) Group, Kicker Design & Construction (KDC) section, responsible for electromechanical design, mechanical engineering, and construction of equipment for Kicker Systems across the entire accelerator complex.
Functions
You will:
- Conceptually design hydraulic systems (fluid and gas) in line with CERN safety standards and provide 3D models and 2D drawings;
- Participate in the construction, installation, commissioning and maintenance of fast pulsed systems (high voltage pulse generators and hydraulic systems) and manipulate potent greenhouse gas with a high global warming potential for systems in operation and for the upgrade of existing systems;
- Provide technical specifications for hydraulic systems including their controls in collaboration with controls experts, identify partners in industry and follow up contracts;
- Define and deploy specific components and sub-assemblies for hydraulic systems;
- Coordinate logistics and write assembly and test procedures.
Qualifications
Higher technical diploma or equivalent relevant experience in the field of electromechanics, mechanics, hydraulics or a related field.
Experience:
Proven experience in the following:
- Handling of gas or fluid distribution systems;
- Electromechanical or mechanical construction.
Desired experience:
- Initial experience in assembly and maintenance of large systems;
- 3D design with CATIA, ISO geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
Technical competencies:
- Design, analysis and optimization of fluid mechanics systems, including gas;
- Knowledge and application of thermal and/or fluid measurement techniques;
- Production of 2D drawings and 3D models;
- Construction, test and installation of electromechanical equipment and systems;
- Operation and maintenance of electromechanical equipment and systems.
Behavioural competencies:
- Achieving results: being rigorous and producing quality results at first attempt; having a structured and organised approach towards work; being able to set priorities and plan tasks with results in mind.
- Communicating effectively: listening actively to others and letting others speak; expressing opinions, ideas and suggestions with conviction and in a logical/structured manner; keeping to the point; ensuring that information, procedures and decisions are appropriately documented.
- Solving problems: identifying, defining and assessing problems, taking action to address them; addressing complex problems by breaking them down into manageable components.
- Managing self: working well autonomously; taking on activities and tasks without prompting.
- Working in teams: contributing to promoting a positive atmosphere in the team through an optimistic and constructive attitude; addressing issues; building and maintaining constructive and effective work relationships.
Language skills:
Spoken and written English or French: ability to understand and speak the other language in routine situations.
