Job Details

The Department of Physics {https://arts-sciences.buffalo.edu/physics.html) at the University at Buffalo (UB), The State University of New York is seeking to fill a tenure-track faculty position in theoretical condensed matter physics/material science at the level of Associate or Full Professor. The successful candidate is expected to build an active research program in the general interdisciplinary area between condensed matter physics and information science, such as data science/artificial intelligence-guided quantum materials design and exploration (including, but not limited to, topological materials, 2D materials, quantum magnets, non-linear optical materials, superconductors), and quantum machine learning.

The Department of Physics is entering a period of significant growth: two tenure track faculty members (an experimental physicist working in MBE growth of quantum materials and a theoretical physicist working in quantum information processing/quantum optics) started this year. This current position is part of a multi year, multi-faculty recruitment effort in quantum science and technology supported by the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, the Office of the Provost and the State of New York.

The Department is a vibrant community with a long tradition and strong commitment to excellence in research, service, and teaching. Research interests within the Department span the traditional disciplines of physics - condensed matter physics, biophysics, high energy physics and cosmology and non-linear dynamics. We benefit greatly from collaborative affiliations with researchers within the College of Arts and Sciences; the Schools of Engineering, Medicine, and Pharmacy; the Centers of Excellence in Bioinformatics and Materials Informatics; and the Center for Computational Research.

Outstanding Benefits Package

Working at UB comes with benefits that exceed salary alone. There are personal rewards including comprehensive health and retirement plan options.
