Assistant Professor - tenure-track (Theoretical Quantum Physics, Information and Technology)
The College and Science and the Department of Physics and Astronomy seek to appoint an outstanding academic researcher and educator at the rank of tenure-track Assistant Professor in the field of Theoretical Quantum Physics, Information and Technology. We welcome applicants with a track record of research on the theory of open quantum systems in atomic, optical or solid-state platforms, or quantum theory, design and modeling for quantum computing, sensing and technology. The candidate’s research should complement and enhance the activities of the Quantum Science and Technologies group (https://faculty.lsu.edu/quantum/index.php) and the Hearne Institute of Theoretical Physics (https://www.phys.lsu.edu/dept/hearnenews/). The appointed candidate will be expected to provide effective teaching of the physics curriculum at undergraduate and graduate levels, and to lead a vigorous research program funded by external grants with high visibility including mentoring young scientists (undergraduates, PhD students, and Post Docs). The successful candidate will join the faculty affiliated with the Hearne Institute of Theoretical Physics.
The Department of Physics and Astronomy at Louisiana State University (LSU) is a friendly, dynamic, innovative, and inclusive department on the beautiful campus of LSU in Baton Rouge with modern teaching and research facilities. Our faculty and students carry out internationally leading research in Astrophysics, Atomic Physics and Quantum Optics, Condensed Matter Physics of Quantum Materials, Gravitational Physics and General Relativity, Nuclear and Particle Physics. The Hearne Institute of Theoretical Physics spans the subfields of Astrophysics and Cosmology, Atomic, Nuclear and Particle Physics, Gravity and General Relativity and the Quantum Physics of Matter, Fields and Information Science. The Department of Physics and Astronomy is part of the College of Sciences, and is also affiliated with the Center for Computational Technologies, providing excellent opportunities for collaboration and interdisciplinary research with members of the faculties of Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Geology and Geophysics, Mathematics.
Responsibilities: 100% - Teach of physics curriculum at the undergraduate and graduate levels; establish a vigorous research program funded by external grants with high visibility including mentoring young scientists (undergraduates, PhD students, and Post Docs).
Minimum qualifications: PhD in physics or a related field
