Your duties Working within the Nuclear and Particle Physics group of the ILL at the Ultra-Cold and Very Cold Neutron Sources you will:

  • Act as co-responsible at PF2 - the world's most intense user source for Ultra-cold and very cold neutrons;
  • Support scientific users in their experiments in particle, nuclear and fundamental physics and act as local contact;
  • Pursue your personal research program;
  • Establish new scientific collaborations for instruments of the NPP group by promoting Ultra-cold neutron science at the ILL;
  • Contribute to new developments of instrumentation in the NPP-group;
  • Contribute to the processing and interpretation of experimental data;
  • Supervise master and PhD students within the NPP. You will be trained at all Ultra-Cold Neutron and Very Cold Neutron sources of the ILL to get full awareness of the scientific possibilities of the whole instrumental suite.

Your profile

  • PhD in physics with a strong knowledge of experimental particle physics, neutron optics or quantum mechanical phenomena;
  • Having some professional experience as a Post-Doc in a research institution is of advantage;
  • You have strong organizational and communication skills and you enjoy working in an international team.

The post represents an excellent opportunity for a postdoctoral scientist to develop expertise, broaden experience and interact with leading scientists from around the world. Applications from more experienced scientists able to obtain a secondment period from their home institution will also be considered.

As an international research centre, we are particularly keen to ensure that we also attract applicants from outside France. You must have a sound knowledge of English and be willing to learn French (a language course will be paid for by the ILL).
