Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL) - operates Europe's leading research facility for basic research with neutrons in Grenoble (France). The passion for progress and technology unites us and makes innovation in science and research possible every day. Let's work together to change our society and our world for the better.

Your tasks

Working within the "Nuclear and Particle Physics (NPP)" group, you will:

  • Act as co-responsible for the LOHENGRIN instrument (recoil separator of fission products);
  • Act as co-responsible for the FIPPS instrument (FIssion Product Prompt gamma ray Spectrometer);
  • Support visiting scientists with their fission and gamma ray spectroscopy experiments, and act as Local Contact;
  • Pursue your personal research programme in nuclear physics;
  • Establish new scientific collaborations for nuclear physics instruments by promoting neutron-induced reactions and nuclear spectroscopy at ILL;
  • Contribute to new developments of nuclear physics instrumentation in the NPP-group;
  • Contribute to the processing and interpretation of experimental data;
  • Supervise Master's and PhD students in nuclear physics working on ILL's instruments.

You will receive training on the recoil separator LOHENGRIN and the gamma-ray spectroscopy programme at FIPPS, allowing you to familiarise yourself fully with the scientific possibilities of the entire instrument suite for experiments involving fission and other neutron-induced reactions.

Further information can be obtained by contacting the Head of the NPP group: Dr. Michael Jentschel - e-mail: jentsch@ill.eu (please do not send your application to this address).

Your profile

You hold a PhD in physics and have a strong knowledge of experimental nuclear physics. Some professional experience as a Post-doc in a research institution would be an advantage. The post represents an excellent opportunity for a postdoctoral scientist to develop expertise, broaden his/her experience and interact with leading scientists from around the world. Applications from more experienced scientists able to obtain a secondment period from their home institution will also be considered.
