Computer Scientist for Software Development for the Cherenkov Telescope Array (CTA)

The IT group at the DESY site in Zeuthen near Berlin is responsible for the institute's IT infrastructure. In addition, the group also supports the projects of the scientific groups.

About your role:

  • Design and implement software modules for the CTA Configuration Database System
  • Participate in other CTA software activities of the institute
  • Participate in the whole life cycle of CTA Array Control and Data Acquisition software system development

About you:

  • Completed scientific higher education in computer science, computer engineering, information technology or mathematics or equivalent knowledge
  • Good skills in Java and Python
  • Profound experience in database management systems (DBMS), especially in relational database management systems (RDBMS)
  • Profound experience in database design, development, performance optimisation of relational (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL databases (Apache Cassandra, MongoDB)
  • Advanced knowledge of API design patterns to create a modern API design
  • Expertise in using object relational mappers (ORMs)
  • Experience in all basic software
  • lifecycle activities: requirements, architecture, design, code, test, integration, deployment and maintenance.
  • Experience with industrial control systems, such as Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems
  • Experience in Linux operating system
  • Good knowledge of English and the willingness to learn German
