The Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility’s (Jefferson Lab, https://www.jlab.org/) Electrical Engineering Systems (EES) department has an opening for a Radio Frequency (RF) Group Leader to join the team. In this crucial role, you will support the Continuous Electron Bean Accelerator Facility (CEBAF), an electron accelerator for Nuclear physics research (Jefferson Lab/CEBAF), in a variety of manager and engineering tasks.
The Radio Frequency (RF) group leader provides management and technical oversight for a team of engineers and technicians supporting accelerator operations, and other lab initiatives. The role will also work with customers to develop planning, cost, and schedules to maintain reliable RF systems to support accelerator operations, address obsolescence issues, and lead state-of-the-art High Power RF (HPRF) and Low Level RF (LLRF) controls development, especially as it applies to the Electron Ion Collider (EIC) project. The incumbent will utilize engineering resources to balance incoming work requests, assist in the prioritization of tasks, help to mitigate resource conflicts, and monitor customer satisfaction of engineering services.
Responsibilities include maintaining the high voltage RF systems used to power the superconducting cavities in our electron accelerator, leading the development of new RF power systems such as Solid State Amplifiers and RF controls, maintaining an understanding of the Accelerator division’s overall operational goals, keeping RF engineering staff abreast of latest technology, ensuring project workflows and handoffs are completed in accordance with engineering expectations, and assessing workloads against manpower resources and skillsets for the RF group.
The ideal candidate will have a BSEE (MSEE preferred), supervisory experience, and demonstrated knowledge in accelerator RF systems. The candidate must have solid knowledge of electrical circuits and systems and be a system expert in one of the following areas, High Power RF (HPRF) systems, Low Level RF (LLRF) controls or Analog/RF design. In addition, the candidate will be expected to compose and publish research work in peer-reviewed journals.
