The Department of Astronomy & Astrophysics at the University of Chicago invites applications for the position of Postdoc, working in Professor Wendy Freedman’s research group. The primary responsibility for this position involves measuring distances to nearby galaxies using a number of methods, including Cepheids, the Tip of the Red Giant Branch, the JAGB method and Type Ia supernovae based on data from the Magellan 6.5-meter Baade telescope, the Hubble Space Telescope and James Webb Space Telescope. The position requires experience in point-spread-fitting photometry of crowded using DOLPHOT or DAOPHOT. Besides conducting research, the postdoc is expected to present results at conferences and help prepare grants and reports on their research.
Expected project length is 1 year with possibility of reappointment. The position will remain open until the position is filled.
Qualified applicants must be within 5 years or less of receiving their PhD.

Required:
- a PhD in physics or astrophysics;
- experience with DOLPHOT and DAOPHOT;
- python programming skills
