The experimental particle physics group at the University of Cincinnati invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow with the Belle II experiment. The Cincinnati group has a long history of physics contributions at Belle, and at Belle II the group plays a leading role in operating the iTOP particle identification detector and performing data analysis. The Belle II experiment began running in 2019 and thus far has recorded 500 fb-1 of data. The accelerator has set numerous luminosity records. The experiment plans to record 50 ab-1 of data over the next ten years, about 40 times the amount recorded by the Belle + BaBar "B factory" experiments. The Physics Department’s High-Energy Physics group has active programs in experimental research, including the BELLE II, LHCb, NOvA, and DUNE experiments, as well as theoretical research focused on flavor physics and dark matter.

We are seeking a Ph.D. physicist with a strong record of research in experimental particle or nuclear physics. The ideal candidate will have experience in data analysis and a strong interest in flavor physics. This position will be partially stationed at the experiment in Japan.

Essential Functions

The selected individual will be expected to, under direct supervision,

• Play a leading role in Belle II detector operations, particularly with respect to the iTOP detector and/or particle identification.

• conduct research in experimental particle physics, centered on analysis of Belle II data, produce internal notes and manuscripts for publication.

• Assist in mentoring of the group’s graduate students.

Minimum Requirements

All of the following are required prior to the effective appointment date:

• Doctoral Degree in Physics

• Academic research background in analysis of Experimental High Energy or Nuclear Physics data sets.

Application Process

Interested candidates should create an Applicant profile and submit an online application at http://jobs.uc.edu (requisition # 97011). Please upload:

• A cover letter of no more than one page

• A current curriculum vitae including a list of publications

• A statement describing research interests.

Please use the Additional Documents option as needed for these documents.

Applicants should arrange to have at least three letters of reference sent separately to ucphysics@ucmail.uc.edu .

Review of applications will begin on November 1, 2024 and continue until the position is filled.
