The experimental high energy physics group at the Jozef Stefan Institute (JSI) invites applications for a four-year early-stage researcher position. The successful candidate is expected to carry out his research within his work on the PhD Thesis. The position is available on November 1, 2024, but a later start is also possible.

We are looking for candidates to join our research efforts in the framework of FAIME, an ERC Advanced Grant project, https://faime.ijs.si/ . The project aims to study rare processes related to the so-called flavor anomalies by using data collected in the Belle II experiment at the KEK Laboratory in Tsukuba, Japan. The Belle II experiment investigates decays of B and D meson and tau leptons at the SuperKEKB electron-positron collider. Belle II is the successor to the Belle experiment, that collected, between 1999 and 2010, ~1 inverse attobarn of data, resulting in more than 600 publications to date. Belle II took its first collisions in March of 2018 and is designed to record 50 inverse attobarns over the next 10 years. This will provide a major new avenue in which to search for new physics.

The JSI group is currently comprised of 6 faculty members, 3 postdocs, and 4 graduate students. The group is actively pursuing searches for physics beyond the SM using rare decays of B and D mesons. Members of the group also play key roles in the operation and advanced data analysis of the ring imaging subdetector (ARICH) and Time of Propagation subdetector (TOP) of the Belle II spectrometer. The successful candidate will be based at JSI, with regular trips to the KEK lab in Japan.

Candidates must hold a Master's degree (or equivalent) in Physics by the start of employment. Research experience in experimental elementary particle physics is considered an advantage. Interested researchers must apply by submitting the following documents within a single pdf file: a curriculum vitae with a description of research experience, a cover letter, and addresses of at least two referees willing to write a reference letter. Applicants should also arrange to have at least two letters of reference sent to Prof. Peter Krizan ( peter.krizan@ijs.si ) by the application deadline.

Applications received by October 1, 2024 will receive full consideration. The position will remain open until filled.

Contact: Prof. Peter Krizan ( peter.krizan@ijs.si ) and Dr. Marko Bracko (marko.bracko@ijs.si)

Applications and letters of Reference should be sent to: peter.krizan@ijs.si and marko.bracko@ijs.si
