Gross salary: €43,416/year
Package: €200,000 (for recruitment of doctoral students, research funding, etc.)
Summary of the position
The University of Caen is seeking a dynamic and innovative researcher to join our faculty as a tenure-track professor in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) for Science. This position is part of our initiative to become a leading institution in AI for transforming research across a wide range of disciplines. We are looking for candidates with a strong multidisciplinary background at the interface of AI/ML and sciences, and whose research can drive significant advancements in nuclear physics, materials science, or chemical engineering. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to our endeavour of leveraging AI/ML to make discoveries in these fields and to explore the societal impacts of these technological advancements.
Main Duties
- Lead pioneering research projects integrating AI/ML with nuclear physics, materials science, or chemical engineering to drive significant scientific advancements.
- Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Work with interdisciplinary teams to leverage AI/ML for discoveries across the above scientific disciplines.
- Secure Funding: Obtain external funding from national and international agencies to support and expand research initiatives.
- Teaching and Mentorship: Teach and mentor undergraduate and graduate students.
- Scholarly Publications: Publish research findings in top-tier academic journals and present at prestigious international conferences.
- Community Engagement: Engage with the broader scientific community and the public to communicate the societal impacts of AI/ML advancements.
- Curriculum Development: Contribute to the development and enhancement of the AI/ML curriculum within the College of Science.
- Service Responsibilities: Participate in departmental, college, and university service activities, including committee work and outreach programs.
Expected Qualifications
- Educational Background: A Ph.D. in one of the following fields: Computer Science, AI, ML, Applied Mathematics, Material Sciences, Chemistry, Nuclear or Particle Physics.
- Research Experience: At least 4 years of postdoctoral research experience.
- Expertise: Demonstrated expertise in applying AI/ML to scientific research, with a strong publication record in top-tier journals.
- Funding: Proven experience in securing research funding from competitive sources.
- Communication Skills: Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a track record of interdisciplinary teamwork.
- Mentorship: Experience in advising and mentoring graduate students.
- Teaching: Demonstrated teaching experience at the undergraduate and/or graduate level.
- Innovation: A strong commitment to innovation and the ability to translate research findings into practical applications.
- Leadership: Potential for leadership in developing new research initiatives and contributing to the strategic goals of the university.
- Language : knowledge of French is mandatory for teaching.
