The Physics Division of the Gran Sasso Science Institute (GSSI) opened a Tenure-Track position for highly qualified candidates in the field of theoretical physics of fundamental interactions, models, mathematical methods and applications.

The GSSI Physics Division hosts scientists carrying out interdisciplinary research on a variety of subjects, mainly in Underground Particle Physics, Gravitational Wave Astronomy, Multi-messenger Astrophysics, High Energy Astrophysics, Cosmic Rays and Cosmology. All these activities, in particular the ones related to Underground Particle Physics, benefit from the unique close collaboration with the nearby INFN Gran Sasso Laboratory (LNGS) and the low background environment that the underground LNGS Laboratories are able to guarantee.

Currently, the Underground Physics research group, which focuses on experimental Neutrinoless Double Beta Decay, Direct Dark Matter and Supernova Neutrino searches, is still lacking a theoretical counterpart, which is the subject of the present call.

GSSI is a Center for Advanced Studies, with a prominent program of graduate courses. About 40 Physics Graduate Students from all over the world are at GSSI at any given time, and part of the duties of the Faculty is to provide teaching and supervision of their research activity. Interdisciplinary projects aimed at increasing the connections with other research areas at GSSI (Mathematics, Computer Science and Social Science) are welcome.

Candidates willing to work in the exciting GSSI atmosphere are required to possess a doctoral degree in physics or related fields prior to the appointment, with a proven record of achievements, a clear potential to promote and lead research activities and a specific interest in teaching at the postgraduate level to a small set of particularly skilled students.

GSSI is committed to gender balance, inclusion and diversity. All applications will be given proper consideration, independent of ethnicity, religion, age, gender, sexual orientation, or disability.

The official call is advertised on the GSSI website (item #356), with a link to the official Italian call as well as to an unofficial English translation .

The applications must be submitted online on the PICA platform . The application deadline is July 18th, 2024, at 23:59.
