The group contributing to the Rubin Observatory Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST) at the Institute of Physical Sciences, of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (ICF-UNAM), invites for applications for the DGAPA-UNAM postdoctoral fellowship (find the complete call for applications at https://dgapa.unam.mx/images/postdoctoral/2023_postdoctoral_call.pdf ). The deadline at the ICF for submitting applications for the DGAPA fellowships is on the 22nd July, with the results expected to be public by the end of September 2024. The start date for this position is 1st of March, 2025. The contract is for one year, and can be extended to a second year upon proof of satisfactory progress.

The research focus will be the science pipeline development in the DESC Science Collaboration. In particular in the Photo-z and Modelling Combined probes working groups. It will consist of developing software for data processing and theoretical analysis of Photometric redshifts of Large Scale Structure, Bayesian analysis of cosmological data, perturbation theory, and models beyond wCDM.

The fellowship’s activities include developing, documenting, and maintaining software. They will also regularly attend the dedicated working group conference calls, present progress and receiving feedback, and also be active participants in the collaboration’s ongoing “roadmap realization” effort.

The successful candidate will have a Ph. D. in physics, astronomy or a closely related field, obtained within 5 years prior to the start of the contract. Knowledge of the Python and/or C++ programming languages is required. Experience with particle/astroparticle physics theory, data analysis, and Monte Carlo simulations is desired.

Applicants should send a C.V., a copy of the Ph. D. title, the abstract of their Ph. D. thesis, and a brief statement of research to direccion@icf.unam.mx by July 18th at the latest. One or two reference letters would be ideally sent to the same email, although not compulsory, by July 22nd.

The Institute of Physical Sciences at UNAM is strongly committed to employment equity, diversity, and inclusion in the workplace. We strongly encourage applications from women, indigenous people and racialized/visible minority.
