Technical staff of a scientific institute

Summary:

The Center of Theoretical and Experimental Particle Physics (CTEPP) is creating laboratories in Universidad Andrés Bello (UNAB).

The CTEPP is looking for electronic engineers for ongoing or new projects in ATLAS detector upgrade and LHC-B upgrade at CERN, basic research, applied physics. Successful candidates will have a background in design and production of electronics for the experimental high energy physics, applied physics, medical physics, electronics, high performance computing, machine learning and artificial intelligence.

The candidate is expected to spend a substantial amount of time on-site at laboratories of UNAB, Chile.

Qualifications:

Desirable qualities include demonstrated experience in design, programming and test of electronic modules with FPGA; some overlap with the scientific and technical program already underway at the CTEPP; a vision for making positive technical and societal impacts on Chile as well as internationally; and an affinity for working collaboratively on projects with other people, such as students, professors, and other scientists and engineers. The CTEPP works at an international scientific center, CERN (in French Conseil Européen pour la Recherche Nucléaire, Geneva, Switzerland) including ATLAS, LHC-B, NA-64, SND@LHC experiments, at the JUNO experiment (China). Ability to work in an international research center abroad Chile will be an important criterion in the selection of candidates.

Context:

The Center of Theoretical and Experimental Particle Physics of UNAB has a broad ongoing program that spans theoretical and experimental particle physics, high-energy nuclear physics, applied and environmental physics, high performance computing, and engineering research in the areas of electronics, mechanics and optics. Local facilities operated and supported by the CTEPP include a particle physics detector development laboratory, an electronics design and fabrication laboratory, and heterogeneous computing farm. UNAB is the leading university in Chile with a primary focus on science and engineering. That’s why it attracts many talented students at all levels who will be fully integrated into the CTEPP's projects. The UNAB has departments of Physics, Informatics, and Electronics Engineering, all have well-established Master’s and PhD programs.

Appointment period:

This is permanent staff position.

Deadline: Applications will be accepted until September 15th of 2024.

How to apply: Applicants should provide a cover letter, curriculum vitae. In addition, the contact information for three reference letter writers should be provided. We will request letters as necessary.
