Maximum information crystal calorimetry for future Higgs Factories

One research grant is available to work at INFN Milano-Bicocca on the project “MAXICC: MAXimum Information Crystal Calorimeter for future colliders”, funded by the Italian Ministry of University and Research under the PRIN 2022 program.

The goal of the project is to design, build and test a prototype of an innovative electromagnetic calorimeter made of highly segmented scintillating crystals read out through thin optical filters and Silicon Photomultipliers. The MAXICC calorimeter concept includes dual-readout capabilities for optimal integration with a hybrid dual-readout calorimeter and has the potential to expand the physics program of future Higgs factories experiments. The project is in synergy with the strategic R&D program identified by the European Committee for Future Accelerators (ECFA) which is being implemented through the creation of new international Detector R&D (DRD) collaborations at CERN.

The job will include simulation studies, laboratory measurements and participation in beam tests and represents an opportunity to comprehensively expand the candidate’s skills in detectors for particle physics.

The position is expected to start in Summer/Fall 2024 and and to has a duration of 12 months.

Candidates should have a background in experimental particle physics and must hold a master's degree or doctorate degree in physics with a thesis relevant to the project topics. The gross salary per year is around 25 kE.

Secondments to CERN and other CMS institutes of a maximum total duration of less than two months, subsidized by INFN, are foreseen as well as travels to international workshops and conferences.
