The experimental particle and Astroparticle physics Group at the Humboldt-University of Berlin invites applications for a PhD position (E13 67% part time employment). The position is funded for 3 years. The research will be within the H.E.S.S. Collaboration focusing on analysis and performance work related to the understanding of hadronic interactions in the TeV energy range.

Job description:

▪ scientific services in research for the DFG project “Constraining Hadronic Interaction Models Using Combined LHC and Air Shower Data”

▪ analysis of data from the H.E.S.S. very high energy gamma ray telescope to measure properties of hadronic interactions in air showers

▪ work as part of the experimental particle- and astroparticle physics group

Requirements:

▪ completed university degree in physics with specialisation in astrophysics, astroparticle physics, or particle physics

▪ knowledge in using Linux operating systems, knowledge of Python (C++ knowledge advantageous)

▪ experience with astroparticle physics detectors, data acquisition and data analysis desirable

▪ ability to work in teams and communication skills

▪ good knowledge of the English language
