The quantum field theory group at the Institute for Theoretical Physics at FSU Jena is looking for a candidate wishing to pursue a PhD in the area of quantum field theory for strongly interacting systems in theoretical high-energy physics, many-body physics or gravity. Candidates are required to hold a degree equivalent to a Master of Science prior to starting their PhD studies at FSU Jena. We are interested in hiring a creative, proactive, and motivated candidate with interest in modern field theoretical methods (e.g., functional methods, renormalization group) as well as gravitational theory.

The position is fund by the University of Jena, and it is expected that the successful applicant contributes to the teaching activities at the University with an equivalent of 2 teaching hours/week in the physics study programs. The position will be for three years initially. The salary and social benefits (e.g., health insurance) are based on the collective labor agreement for the federal states (TVL) for the German public sector, usually at pay grade E13/50% (starting approximately from gross 25,000 EUR/year with an increase depending on seniority and qualification).

The position is open until filled. Screening of candidates starts on 10 April 2024.
