Research assistant (m/f/d) in a scientific or engineering discipline (focus: combustion technology, safety engineering, explosion protection, tribology or comparable)

The Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und ‑prüfung (BAM) is a materials research organization in Germany. Our mission is to ensure safety in technology and chemistry. We perform research and testing in materials science, materials engineering and chemistry to improve the safety of products and processes. At BAM we do research that matters. Our work covers a broad array of topics in the focus areas of energy, infrastructure, environment, materials, and analytical sciences.

Your responsibilities include:
- R&D as part of a third‑party funded project on the influence of lubricants and catalytic surfaces on pre‑ignition in hydrogen engines and on the tribological characterization of various lubricant formulations
- Independent conception, planning, coordination, execution and evaluation of experimental investigations in the above-mentioned field, also in cooperation with various organizational units of BAM
- Preparation of reports and publication of research results at scientific conferences and in scientific journals
- Organization of the project, cooperation with the project partners and representation of BAM in the project consortium
Your qualifications:
- Successfully graduated from university with a degree (master/diploma) in a natural science or engineering discipline (focus: combustion technology, safety engineering, explosion protection, tribology or comparable)
- PhD-degree desired
- Experience in experimental work, in particular with measurement technology and handling flammable gases as well as in test evaluation (with Origin or similar)
- Experience in the implementation of third‑party funded R&D projects and corresponding scientific project management desired
- Very good written and spoken English and German
- Good communication and information skills, goal‑oriented and structured way of working, initiative/commitment and ability to make decisions, ability to work in a team and willingness to cooperate as well as conceptual, strategic and innovative thinking skills
