Faculty position in theoretical physics (Lecturer/Reader/Professor)

University of St Andrews – School of Physics & Astronomy

The University of St Andrews is seeking to appoint a faculty position in theoretical physics, in either condensed matter physics, or at the interface between condensed matter physics and photonics within the School of Physics & Astronomy. The School is internationally recognised for its research in the areas of condensed matter physics, photonics and astronomy. The research in the School is focussed in interdisciplinary research centres; within condensed matter physics, it hosts the Centre for Designer Quantum Materials.

Applicants should have a strong record in research creativity, and a clear vision of how their work will develop and complement our existing research strengths. Applicants with well-established research portfolios, and proven abilities to establish national and international collaborations and secure research funding will be considered for Reader/Chair positions.

Company

The School aims to carry out world-leading curiosity-driven research which both pushes the boundaries of fundamental science and is of high impact, with national and global benefit. Its research is internationally known in each of its three strategic research themes: photonics, condensed matter physics and astronomy. Much of the research is highly collaborative and interdisciplinary, including activities in functional materials, biophysics and exoplanetary science. In the most recent national assessment of research excellence, REF 2014, the School was ranked third in the UK (in a joint submission with the University of Edinburgh) for research quality in physics and astronomy.
